The Cryptid Club™
“Are you kids even a real school club?”
As a kid, sometimes it’s easier to feel more at home with the creepy, mystical and macabre than your own peers. This is the sole qualification it takes to join Fort Mooselick Middle’s very own Cryptid Club™! Sure, we might not be “approved” by the school board, but breaking into haunted locations shouldn’t be advertised anyway. This is serious business!
What is it?
The Cryptid Club™ is a narrative story entirely driven by its leading band of weirdos. The idea, birthed somewhere in the Pacific Canadian Wilderness tells the story of Penny, Finley, and Cork. They are a collective of misfit middle schoolers obsessed with all things supernatural. Where most kids spend their days camped out on the soccer field or rooting through the mall’s clearance bins, these kiddos have likely spent the last four hours staked out in the muddy bushes of a swamp five miles out from any human society in hopes of documenting a ghoul you’ve never even heard of.
Based off of my cousin, brother, and I, these characters are near and dear to my heart. Their adventures are meant to stir that nostalgic childhood wonder, and remind you of the imaginative journeys we all captured early on. That, mixed with the attitude of being “the weird kid” and being driven by all things creepy and crawly.
Meet our characters!
Penelope “Penny” Bridges is the club’s VP and the self-titled personality of the group. She is the last of them to ever take shit from anyone and considers herself the guard dog of them. Surrounded by her friends, she’s always there to feed her teen girl delusions there is no one in the world she’d rather pester then her boys.
Finley Banks is President of the bunch. Their insistence and dedication to supernatural “science” is what drives the club’s more…dangerous adventures. They have a natural sense of leadership and a nutty obsession with all things unusual. He has forever pledged his honor and loyalty to his work and closest friends.
Vinnie “Cork” Riley is the Club Treasurer. Both in status and in worth. Usually communicative through ASL, they tend to be the more cautious down-to-earth member of the club. Curious and kind, there isn’t anything they wouldn’t do for their friends.
